Discovering the Charms of La Fruitière des Perrières in Les Gets
Nestled in the picturesque Les Gets ski resort in Les Perrières area (own ski lift too), La Fruitière des Perrières offers a unique blend of gastronomic delights, cultural heritage, and artisanal craftsmanship, all under one roof. This exceptional site in the Les Perrieres area encompasses a cheese dairy, a restaurant, and a specialty cheese and local Savoyard products shop.
A Century-Old Family Legacy
La Fruitière des Perrières was established in the early 20th century in Les Gets. Initially, it was a communal spot where local farmers gathered to bring their milk, which was then transformed into cheese. This cheese was initially distributed back to the farmers, and only later did it become a commercial product.
In the 1950s, Raymond Monnet took over as the cheesemaker. Both cheese production and sales took place in what is now the current shop. This integration marked a significant step in making La Fruitière des Perrières a central part of the community.
European Standards and New Beginnings
The year 1992 was pivotal for La Fruitière des Perrières. With the implementation of new European standards, a modern dairy facility was constructed. This transition also saw the transformation of the old aging cellars into a charming restaurant by Pierre and Monique, named L’Auberge de la Fruitière des Perrières. Today, Raymond Monnet’s daughter and granddaughter are delighted to welcome guests, continuing the family tradition with pride.
The Restaurant: A Haven of Cheese Delights
Open only in the evenings, the restaurant invites you into its former vaulted cheese-aging cellars. Here, guests can indulge in a variety of cheese specialties such as fondue, raclette, and Berthoud, accompanied by “petit blanc” local wine. This setting offers a dining experience filled with charm and authenticity, where every product is either homemade or carefully selected from the region.
The Shop: Artisanal Cheese Galore
La Fruitière des Perrières has been an artisanal cheesemaking hub for over a century. Each morning, milk from three local producers is delivered and transformed into cheeses like Abondance, Tomme des Gets, Raclette, and Saveur des Gets. The shop offers not only these cheeses but also other regional products like fruit-flavoured Comté, Swiss Gruyère, butter, jams, and honey.
Additional services include vacuum-sealing purchases, preparing fondue and raclette dishes, and arranging charcuterie platters on request. The shop also provides free loan of raclette machines, fondue sets, and cheese curlers.
Meet the Cheesemaker
During visits, the cheesemaker, Sandrine, is eager to share her passion and knowledge with guests. This hands-on experience is a testament to the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into every piece of cheese produced here.
