Connect your property to EDF, the French electricity company

If you’ve recently purchased a ski property in the French Alps, you will need to set up electricity in your name, and you’ll need to contact EDF (Électricité de France). 1. Call EDF International Customer Service
To set up your EDF account, call their international customer service number:

2. Provide a French Bank Account Number

What if you don’t have a French bank account?
You can still open your EDF account without one initially, but you’ll need to provide a French bank account later for direct debits. Consider setting up your French bank account as soon as possible to streamline payments. You can also open a Revolut or Wise account with French account number from most European/world countries.

3. Know Your PDL Number
The operator will ask for your PDL Number (Point de Livraison), which is the unique identifier for your electricity meter.

For New Properties: The PDL number should be provided by the developer.
For Resale Properties: Your estate agent or the previous owner should give you this information.
Having the PDL number ensures that EDF can correctly identify your meter and activate your supply.

4. Choose the Right Power Option
For residential properties, EDF offers different power capacities (measured in kilovolt-amperes, or kVA). The recommended power levels are:

9 kVA: Suitable for small apartments.
12 kVA: Better for larger apartments with higher electricity needs.
Consult your developer or agent if you’re unsure which capacity suits your property. Selecting the right power option helps avoid unnecessary costs or power outages.

Final Steps
Once you’ve completed the call, EDF will confirm your account setup and provide details about your contract. You may need to wait a few days for the electricity to be activated, especially if the property has been unoccupied.
